Being a good parent is NOT all about sacrifice. Modeling is the most powerful and natural parenting mode, being stressed out, isolated, short-tempered, unhappy … is this what we want to model? But it gets worse, not only do we ‘tell’ our children how to be in life by how we live our lives, our anxieties and stress levels directly affect our children’s health – negatively, on all 3 levels – emotional, mental, & physical.
One of our main ‘jobs’ as parents is to model the behavior we want to pass onto our children. More bad news… we can’t put up a big enough facade to fool them. Our children are tuned into us, and pick up on everything (as David Code so clearly states in his book of the same name).
If our anxiety and stress levels directly affect our children then taking a step to be healthier today one step more than yesterday. We can all take just one step, and taking that one step equals movement and movement becomes a habit and that habit brings about massive change over time.
Anxiety over our anxiety level just ain’t going to help anyone is it!? Here is a portion of our workshop that can layout where we can make just one step towards health.
- Inquiry – what is it I truly desire for my children and myself?
- Self-reflection – Looking at what I actually did, said, & thought in the last week.
- Action – What is ONE thing I could actually do this week that would be on step healthier?
